It produces a fine surface finish and accurate large and small parts with great detail. The material begins as a formulated resin in a vat, then is built on a platform where the material is solidified through a laser tracing toolpaths.
The resulting product is easily sand-able and accepts paint very well. SLA is great for urethane casting masters, large scale parts, snap fit assemblies, jigs, tool holders and more. This is an ideal process for late-stage prototypes that need to take on a realistic aesthetic and materials are now more durable than ever for certain demanding applications.
